Glasgow’s Citizens Theatre to be new home for Vanishing Point

From April 2015, Vanishing Point, one of Scotland’s leading international theatre companies, will move from their current office at the CCA (Centre for Contemporary Arts) in Sauchiehall Street Glasgow to become an associate company of the well- established and well -loved Citizens Theatre based in Glasgow’s Gorbals.

Announcing the iconic theatre’s newest tenants, Citizens’ Artistic Director Dominic Hill says, ”It’s important to me that the Citizens is home to some of the best creative talent in Scotland and Vanishing Point fit this bill perfectly. Having a range of companies and creatives based in our building opens up all sorts of opportunities for collaboration and cooperation and enriches the creative lives of everyone who works in the building. I’m looking forward to welcoming Vanishing Point to their new home next month. ”

Vanishing Point is acclaimed for productions developed uniquely with international casts and creative collaborators that have been presented around the world. Led by Artistic Director Matthew Lenton, Vanishing Point will now have a new base from which to create their distinctive dream-like, atmospheric and magical work.

Vanishing Point Artistic Director Matthew Lenton says, “Now feels like an exciting time in Vanishing Point’s evolution to be based at the Citizens theatre. We are two companies producing ambitious, invigorating work from contrasting, but complementary perspectives. It’ll be exciting for us to be based in a living, breathing theatre where work is being created daily by directors, actors, performers and designers. We are looking forward to the start of this new relationship.”

Among their international and multi -disciplinary productions that include The Beggar’s Opera (2009), Saturday Night (2011), Wonderland (2012) and Tomorrow (2014), Vanishing Point most recently presented The Beautiful Cosmos of Ivor Cutler , a co-production with National Theatre of Scotland in association with Eden Court Theatre at the Citizens Theatre in Spring 2014. In 2008, Vanishing Point and the Citizens Theatre worked together to create Little Otik based on the film by Czech surrealist artist Jan Svankmajer.

The Citizen’s Theatre has been one of Scotland’s flagship producing theatres since 1945 and celebrates its 70th anniversary this year.
