The full line-up for Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party 2007-2008 has been announced.
Fife-based singer-songwriter King Creosote headlines the Waverley Stage, performing along with ethno-techno dance group Trans-Global Underground and guitar
popsters Figure 5.
Scotland's Red Hot Chilli Pipers
will join forces with British Asian fusion band, Kismet, and Go Lem
system from Barcelona on the Scott Monument Stage.
The Great Calverto, Peter Hook's DJ set and new band on the hip hop scene, TM
Hands will entertain with pop at the Mound Stage.
This is in addition
to Concert in the Gardens headlined by Kasabian and supported
by Idlewild and Calvin Harris, for which around three quarters of
tickets have already been sold.
Night Afore
The Night Afore this year sees a ‘Monster Ceilidh' on Sunday 30th December
from 8pm, an eclectic mix of music, street theatre, storytelling and giant
monsters from throughout Europe. Responding to criticisms that hogmanay was not Scottish enough in previous years, the theme for the Night
Afore is the Highlands and, say organisers Unique Events, "the impact our land to the north
has had on the world." It will include "a hugely ambitious programme of music, dance
and street theatre" over several stages and throughout George
Street. As in previous years, revellers will try to set a new world record for the Scottish dance Strip the Willow.
"Our aim this year is to reconstruct that great home-grown social gathering, ‘the ceilidh', and present it to the world in a completely new and exciting way," said Pete Irvine of Unique Events. "The ceilidh is a traditional idiom based on the idea of singin', dancin' and storytellin' where everyone can join in."
Torchlight Procession starts four day Hogmanay fest
The four day programme also includes the traditional Torchlight Procession on Saturday 29th December, beginning with fireworks, the procession itself from the Royal Mile to Calton Hill, and the burning of a Viking longship and wicker effigy.
On 31st December itself, over 100,000 revellers will pour into Edinburgh's City
Centre. The evening starts quietly with the Candlelit Concert in St
Giles Cathedral featuring music from Bach and Mozart.
The Ceilidh in the Gardens sees a traditional Scottish ceilidh in Princes Street Gardens with a stage of live traditional music plus more
live music down on the Ceilidh dancefloor; The Hoog, a new event
with 3 stages, a mix of Ceilidh and disco and food and bars in the
Assembly Rooms, as well as Hoog Royale with a combination of ceilidh and swing music in the Queen's Hall.
There's also the popular Vegas Grand Hogmanay Ball at Ocean Terminal in Leith.

Festivities conclude with a varied day of events to do or watch on New Year’s Day – from the Edinburgh Bicycle Triathlon, which is already oversubscribed, the IronKids Duathlon and Edinburgh’s Dogmanay in Holyrood Park to the One O’Clock Run, a gentle one mile fun run from the Castle Esplanade down the Royal Mile, signalled by the firing of the the One O’Clock Gun.
