Edinburgh Castle Among Free Attractions for Kids in October

Submitted by edg on Mon, 29 Sep '08 10.48pm

For the month of October, Historic Scotland is waiving kids' admission fees for its 70 attractions across Scotland, including Edinburgh Castle and eight other ancient sites in Edinburgh and Lothians. Entry to Edinburgh Castle for 5 to 15 year-olds is usually £6, for 16-59 year-olds £12 and £9.50 for concessions.

Each of the visitor attractions will also be holding cartoon trails where kids hunt down and answer questions relating to six historical characters hiding throughout the
properties. There are 36 different illustrated historical characters ranging from Jon the Jester to Mungo the Monk to Mary Queen of Scots.

All children will receive a small gift for their efforts. With a number of different trails to choose from, based on the range of properties to visit, visitors can tour a few attractions to clock up their historical character hunt. There will also be a grand prize draw to win a family VIP trip to Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle or Urquhart Castle.

"People are currently looking to save a few pennies and this is a great solution for the October holidays," said Rebecca Hamilton, Marketing and Media Manager at Historic Scotland.
