This year's Christmas weather is shaping up to be very different from the heavy snowfall and icy conditions of last year. The Met Office is forecasting that Edinburgh will have a mild Christmas Day on Sunday with temperatures up to 13C, with a strong SW breeze (29mph), and good visibility.

William Hill are predicting that Scotland could be in for the warmest Christmas ever, offering 2/1 that the record Christmas Day temperature of 15.6C, in Leith in 1896, is beaten this year.

The price has been slashed on the back of the White Christmas odds drifting considerably over the course of the last 48 hours.

“Our punters have completely turned their backs on the White Christmas betting for the first time in a number of years,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

William Hill Christmas Day odds

  • 2/1 Christmas Day Scottish Record Temperature of 15.6c to be broken in 2011 (4/11 not to)
  • 8/1 White Christmas in Glasgow, Edinburgh
  • 7/1 White Christmas in Aberdeen
