Description

Thousands of runners will be pounding the streets and hills of Edinburgh for the well-established 10-mile run. The "Great Day of Running" includes men's, women's, and children's runs.

The Great Edinburgh Run 2017 takes in many city landmarks as runners complete a 10 mile circuit through the Old Town and New Town. They start and end at Holyrood Park, near Holyrood House, passing Our Dynamic Earth and the Scottish Parliament.

The race goes through the Canongate, past Waverley, into East Princes Street Garden, up The Mound, past the National Museum of Scotland, and out to the Meadows where the route turns back and traverses the Old Town to Pleasance where it stretches out along St Leonard's St.

The final 4 miles or so is back through Holyrood Park looping round Duddingston Loch and back around to Holyrood House.

In 2017, there is a new 5-mile run for runners that are 15 years old and over. The route starts in Holyrood Park and goes through Edinburgh's Old Town and New Town.

There are also two family events on the day at Holyrood Park: the Family Mile for children aged 3 - 15 years old (adults can run alongside them) and Toddler Dash of about 100 metres for kids up to five years old. All children will receive a finisher's pack and medal as soon as they finish..
