Live Music in Edinburgh

Review: Alec Empire, 22 November 2009

The GRV is a mass of piercings and blackness, awash with Edinburgh’s punk-goth contingency in varying stages of inebriation.  Dry ice billows around the room, sweetly licking one’s nostrils.  The air feels ripe with anticipation.  But there is tension also.  Curfew time is ticking ever closer and all we see is a prolonged technical display involving a disgruntled roadie wrestling with stubborn microphones.

Tegan and Sara… apparently they’re twins and it’s not just clever use of mirrors.  Having trudged through many an interview to differentiate which was which it became clear that at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter. Having proved themselves internationally as being excellent Canadian exporters of indy/pop/rock they have certainly earned themselves a definitive fan base here in the UK.
