The New Year Sprint is an open 110m race, with a handicap start, that has taken place around New Year's Day annually since 1870.

This year is the 151st anniversary year, and will see professional and amateur sprinters compete for a £5,000 first prize. The Sprint is part of a series of open, ladies, and youth races taking place over a distance of 60 metres up to 4 furlongs (approx 800 metres).

A 5km run (shorter than the 10-mile Great Scottish Run held in the Summer), the Great Edinburgh Winter Run is now a key event in the city's running calendar.

Run or walk 1k, 5k or 10k in the stunning surroundings of Holyrood Park, and get into the Christmas spirit with mince pies and mulled wine afterwards (or soft drinks for the young ones) with goody ba
