Edinburgh's Hogmanay is a four-day winter festival that takes place at the end of each year.

Organisers of Edinburgh's Hogmanay have doubled the price of tickets to the annual Hogmanay Street Party.

The Edinburgh International Book Festival, which ended on Monday, celebrated a rise of 3% in ticket sales from 2007 with three quarters of all tickets selling. Persistent rain in one of the wettest Augusts on record turned parts of Charlotte Square gardens into muddy pools frequented by yellow rubber ducks and seagulls, but the festival still saw almost 200,000 visitors.

The 62nd Edinburgh Festival Fringe, ending today, appears to have survived the wettest August on record and a ticketing fiasco which saw it suspending counter and telephone ticket sales even as preview shows were about to start.

The Fringe Box Office will open for ticket collections today, a day before preview shows start. However, telephone and over the counter ticket sales are remaining suspended for a third day. The Fringe suspended ticket sales on Sunday and yesterday to deal with technical problems with its ticketing system (see Fringe Shuts Shop again... story).

It has been an inauspicious start for the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe (3-25 August). Ever since Fringe tickets went on sale on 9th June, the Fringe office has been grappling with a technology nightmare caused by a switch-over to a new box office system.
