Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2012
For scale, no show in Edinburgh can rival the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Literally hundreds of performers, both from Scotland and bands and organisations from abroad, gather under the dramatic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. The series of displays, which take place on the castle esplanade (an 18th century parade ground), combine breathtaking shows of military precision, often a battle re-enactment, military bands, including the rousing mass pipes and drums.

The Edinburgh International Festival may have come first, but generally it's the Fringe that Edinburgh is best-known for. There's really nothing quite like it - "the largest show on Earth".
The stats bear that out: the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe saw 41,689 performances of 2,542 shows in 258 Fringe venues. It's a sprawling, anarchic, sleepless month of live performances. There were also 607 free shows at the 2011 Fringe.

Dance Base To Hold 10th Anniversary Dance Party
Dance Base, Scotland's National Centre for Dance celebrates 10 years in their Grassmarket studios this September. The building, a £6.9 million bespoke four studio facility was officially opened by Dance Base's Royal Patron Prince Charles on 21 September 2001. To celebrate Dance Base is hosting a "massive dance party" with free drop-in classes for everyone on Thursday 22 September.
