About the Area
The Cowgate is a low-lying strip South of Edinburgh Old Town and running parallel with the Royal Mile. The Cowgate is often considered to be part of Southside.
Edinburgh Cowgate today has become a popular pub and club area and even on the brightest sunny day can be a shadowy, dank place with its narrow road hemmed in by tall, dark tenements on either side.
