About the venue

The Cockburn Association (Edinburgh Civic Trust) is one of the world's oldest architectural conservation and urban planning monitoring organisations.

It was officially formed on 15 June 1875 at a public meeting addressed by Lord Moncrief of Tullibole, as a means of rapid and effctive communication on the work of the Council.

An independent charity, it relies on membership subscriptions and legacies to carry out its work. No core funding is received from the City of Edinburgh Council or the Scottish Government or its agencies.

The Cockburn Association organises the annual Doors Open Day and was instrumental in getting the Water of Leith walkway opened to the public..
