Opening times and admission fees Edinburgh's historic Craigmillar Castle, famous as the location of plot and intrigue. Includes a tower house, courtyard and gardens.
The classic Gothic-looking castle was built by extremely wealthy merchant family, the Prestons in 1635-1639. Mary Queen of Scots stayed here and the Stuart family used it much like a holiday home from Holyrood Palace. Offers educational tours. The castle interior is linked by a broad spiral staircase that connects the three floors of the castle inside.
You can get most of the way to the castle along the Innocent cycle path.
