City Centre Biker Race Hits Edinburgh Saturday

By edg - Posted on 04 October 2007

Over 250 pro mountain bike riders from all over the country will be racing on a course through Edinburgh streets, stairways and alleyways for what the organisers are calling the "World's First Nighttime Urban Downhill Race" on Saturday night, 6th October between 7pm and 9.30pm.

The event, which is being organised by sports clothing retailer Fat Face with the support of City of Edinburgh Council, carries a cash prize of £3000 for pro riders. There are also prizes for all age categories.

Organisers are expecting thousands of specators although, at the time of writing, the course route remains secret, according to the web site, "so no one gets
the chance to practise till race day."

It adds: "Needless to say the riders will
be racing down at top speed, taking on steep steps, jumps and even a
bridge. The riders will be flying down within reach of the thousands of
spectators expected to converge on Edinburgh for the event."

The finish line will be in the Grassmarket or as the Fat Face web site jokingly puts it the "the Cattle and Glass Market."

The action will kick off at 10am with Practice runs.

Seeding Runs 3pm – 5pm

The finals 7pm – 9.30pm

Prize Giving from 9.45pm
