Description

Earth Day, celebrated around the world on 22nd April each year, originated in the United States as a teach-in on the environment organised by a group of Harvard graduates in 1970, and instantly became a grassroots mass demonstration of concern about the damage man is doing to the planet. It is often seen as the start of the modern environmental movement.

The day is marked by a variety of awareness raising events and activities such as beach and park clean-ups throughout the day.
