Description

Dougie MacLean's annual folk festival is held in a variety of intimate, unusual and relaxed venues including Innerpeffray Library (Scotland’s oldest library), the Iron age Crannog, The Garden Room at Hilton Dunkeld and Methven Castle.

The festival began in 2005 as a weekend of music and has grown to become a successful ten day event located around Dunkeld.

2012 Highlights

The Perthshire Amber festival this year includes the "stunningly talented" Julie Fowlis, the vibrant sounds of the Blazin’ Fiddles and the multi-talented ‘BBC Folk Musician of the Year 2012’ Tim Edey.

Dougie MacLean will also be appearing.

  • Saturday 27 October: Ross Ainslie Trio at Aberfeldy Town Hall
  • Monday 29 October: Julie Fowlis at Blair Castle
  • Tuesday 30 October: Blazin’ Fiddles at Blairgowrie Town hall
  • Friday 2 November: Strings and Choirs at Perth Concert Hall
  • Saturday 3 November: The Friends Concert, featuring Michael Marra, Tim Edey, Buddy MacDonald (Canada) and many more to be announced.

The songs of Dougie MacLean have been covered by hosts of artists, including Paolo Nutini, Amy MacDonald, Mary Black, Frankie Miller and Kathy Mattea.

His song Caledonia became one of Scotland's most popular contemporary songs, his music has been used in Hollywood films (Last of the Mohicans), TV Drama (BBC's A Mug's Game), and he was the subject of three BBC TV music-documentaries.
