Description

Ben Judah is the author of "Fragile Empire: How Russia Fell In And Out Of Love With Vladimir Putin", to be published by Yale University Press in May 2013, and an Associate Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations.

Putin has returned to the Kremlin, but is it his mausoleum? Since December 2011 spontaneous protests in Moscow against rigged elections have turned into a new opposition movement intent on ending Putin's rule.

Last winter over 100,000 took to the streets to call new elections, with as many as 20,000 turning out every month since. As a crackdown begins in Moscow, will this movement follow Khodorkovsky to Siberian prison camps or bring about the end of a Tsar-like regime?

The talk will be followed by light refreshments and wine in the Scotland-Russia Forum, EH 89AA
