Fizz Festival, Edinburgh

Time & place
Description

Cracking Wine was launched last year by Janet Harrison who is qualified to an advanced level by the Wines and Spirits Education Trust and has spent over 15 years touring vineyards. The company arranges wine tasting events and their first Fizz Festival - the only UK event dedicated to Champagne and Sparkling wine - was a sell out success.

We Brits love bubbly. Imports of champagne rose 4.5% last year with a total of 34.2 million bottles and sales of Prosecco and Cava increased by 80 per cent in the past five years.

“Why do I drink Champagne for breakfast? Doesn’t everyone?” Noel Coward

Janet’s concept for this speciality wine fair is based on “no snobbery and a fun and informal atmosphere; with the massive rise in sales, it seemed a great time to organise a festival dedicated to Fizz.”

In collaboration with Diana Thompson, (Thompson PR, Edinburgh), Cracking Wine is bringing this sparkling event to The Edinburgh Academy, Henderson Row on Saturday 29 October 2016.

Visitors to this one day event have the opportunity to taste up to 75 different champagnes and sparkling wines and meet wine suppliers, importers and merchants offering expert advice. Exhibitors include Oddbins, Majestic wines, Good Brothers Wine bar, From Vineyards Direct and Zonin 1821 Prosecco. To complement the drink, a line up of Scottish food producers too, such as Damn Fine Cheese and the Oysterman.

During the two ticketed sessions, 12pm-3pm and 4pm-7pm, there will be a choice of Masterclass events: Doug Wood of Woodwinters, 2016 Wine Merchant of the Year, introducing The Wines of Ferghettina from Italy, Nikki Welch, founder of The WineTubeMap will explain different styles of sparkling wines and Mark O’Bryen, a Master of Wine, will host a tasting session of Taittinger champagnes, one of the largest and oldest Houses in France.
