Scottish Chamber Choir: St John Passion - JS Bach

Time & place
Description

The Scottish Chamber Choir, Camerata Alba and soloists from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland come together for this performance of JS Bach's St John Passion. The concert is directed by Iain McLarty.

Spontaneous drama and poetic storytelling run through Bach’s great St John Passion. First performed nearly 300 years ago, this fierce, heart-wrenching realisation of Christ’s physical and spiritual journey to the cross, still speaks to audiences with a visceral energy and timeless relevance.

The Scottish Chamber Choir and Musical Director, Iain McLarty, are joined by sparkling young soloists from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and professional orchestral ensemble, Camerata Alba, in the beautiful interior of Canongate Kirk.

Please join us for this performance of one of the great sacred oratorios, composed when Bach was at the height of his powers and containing some of his most exquisite and communicative writing for the human voice.
