Description

What was started in 1993 by Dead by Dawn festival director Adele Hartley as a response to a dare has developed into a regular slot in the Edinburgh film festival calendar.

Hartley's unbridled enthusiasm for the horror genre is a large part of its success, while the era of cheap filmmaking has meant that there has been a plentiful supply of blood-spillers and chillers out there to keep the Dead by Dawn fest brimming over each year.

The four-day mini film festival features previews and indie discoveries, along with a selection of classic horror, and a variety of short film programmes.

There are Audience Awards for Best Feature and Short, and also the winner of the Cutting Edge Short Film Competition for debut and emerging film-makers.

The festival typically takes place in April, but due to the pandemic it was cancelled in 2022.
