Edinburgh Charity Fashion Show 2011

Ten years since its conception some of Edinburgh’s most enterprising university students are producing one of Europe’s largest, student run fashion shows in support of Break Through Breast Cancer. The Edinburgh Charity Fashion Show has been hailed as ‘one of the biggest events in the society calendar’ by The List and this year will not disappoint.

ECFS 2010 donated an impressive £37,500 to Poppy Scotland, Marie Curie and SamH by putting on a spectacularly surreal fashion show in Edinburgh’s Corn Exchange. Over the past two years ECFS has raised almost £100,000 adding to the impressive quarter of a million raised by the project over the years.

This year ECFS has chosen to support Break Through Breast Cancer. The launch party will take place on 2nd March 2011 at The Caves and the mix of music, models and glamour promise to make this a memorable launch to ECFS 2011.

The two night event is taking place on 18th and 19th March 2011 at the Mansfield Traquair, a gothic setting right in the heart of the Capital. The first evening invites over 500 of Edinburgh’s fashion conscious students milling around our catwalk clutching specially designed cocktails from some of Edinburgh’s coolest bars. The second evening will be a black tie affair with a beautiful three course meal, art exhibition, goody bags and an exciting auction which in the past has featured pieces such as Hugh Laurie’s cane and Sting’s guitar.

The vision for ECFS 2011 comes from the chairwoman’s desire to take the project back to basics. This year the chairwoman, Laura Christine, is committed to the concept of ‘[d]evolution’. ECFS 2011 is casting its eye back to our student origins and exploring new avenues of student creativity and bringing the focus of the event back to its Scottish roots.

Fergus Crook the show’s Creative Director welcomes you to the islands, ‘strange, wild, wonderful, diverse, and full of beautiful and fierce creatures’. The concept for this year’s Edinburgh Charity Fashion Show he states came from an idea to explore and develop the event’s creative possibilities. The notion of [d]evolution and the emphasis of origins has been the inspiration for a raw, stripped back series of photo shoots and will be evident in the show.

ECFS has always displayed the works of exciting designers and ECFS 2011 will not disappoint by show casing up and coming designers alongside established high fashion brands such as Pringle. In the past designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier , Jaeger and Issa.

ECFS’ Fashion Team is tracing the evolution of fashion from the traditional romantic trends through androgyny to modern minimalistic. ECFS’ Fashion and Creative teams are pushing all boundaries by questioning the [d]evolution of gender in what promises to be a [d]evolved and raw spectacle. The photo shoots soon to be unveiled on the website are shot in some of Scotland’s rugged locations and featuring beautiful make up and the striking animal head pieces from James Faulkner.

ECFS has become part of the Edinburgh calendar and the huge dedication of Edinburgh’s students and local businesses is what makes ECFS the huge success that it is.

ECFS is delighted to announce that Citylets will once again be sponsoring this prestigious event. Having built a successful fruitful relationship with Citylets in the past, this year’s show, with their donation will make an enormous difference.

I-on magazine has remarked that ‘the show has consistently displayed a maturity, professionalism and sense of style way beyond its years’ and this year, with the focus on student creativity being displayed along side high fashion, the event will live up to its reputation.

Having been described as a ‘hot night’ by Tatler the committee has pulled out all the stops over the last few months in producing yet another electrifying show and raise an extraordinary amount of money for a worthwhile charity.
