Edinburgh Theatre Arts to Reprise Broadway Comedy for the 2018 Fringe

Following their success in 2016 with Lucy Prebble’s Enron, and in 2017 with Alan Ayckbourn’s Improbable Fiction, renowned Edinburgh amateur theatre company, Edinburgh Theatre Arts (ETA) bring back The Front Page, a play they first staged 25 years ago in Church Hill Theatre, Edinburgh.

Set in the 1920s The Front Page, is a Broadway comedy about tabloid newspaper reporters on the police beat, written by former Chicago reporters Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur. It was first produced in 1928 and has been adapted several times for the cinema.

Set in the dingy Prison press room of Chicago's Criminal Courts Building overlooking the gallows behind the Cook County Jail, a motley group of Reporters vie for the scoop of the decade. Soon they will witness the hanging of Earl Williams, a white man and supposed Communist revolutionary convicted of killing a black policeman.

Add to this an array of characters from the period (all performed within the confines of St Ninians Hall) including ace reporter, Hildy Johnson, as he considers THE most important decision in his life, and you have another punch above the weight production from ETA.
