Edinburgh is the 6th most spectacular film location city in the world, according to a poll conducted by Sky Movies HD of around 1,000 film fans. At the top of the list came New York City followed by London and Rio De Janeiro in joint 2nd place, then Paris, Florence and Barcelona.
"We are delighted that Edinburgh has done so well in this survey," said Ros Davis of Edinburgh Film Focus, the local agency that represents and promotes Edinburgh to the film industry.
"I think those of us that live here and love the city are not surprised, but accolades like this are really helpful in our marketing of the city internationally. We would hope to attract more films to the area of the back of it."
Davis added: "Not only is Edinburgh wonderfully cinematic and inspiring but it is also up there as one of the most film friendly cities in the world. This is thanks to a supportive Council and Police, tolerant citizens and the work of an experienced Film Office. In a competitive business Edinburgh punches above its weight in attracting productions and if we want to maintain our position it will become increasingly important to maintain our film friendly reputation."
