The Flying Artichoke 2014 Winner is Announced!

For the fourth year running, the Scottish Arts Club - EdinburghGuide.com Scottish Theatre Fringe Award is going to an act judged to be ‘brave, challenging and engaging’ and being of outstanding quality at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The winner this year’s award, known affectionately (or otherwise) as The Flying Artichoke, is Donald Robertson is Not a Stand-up Comedian written and performed by Glasgow theatre maker, Gary McNair at the Traverse Theatre.

Judges describe the winner as “…a tale of stand-up comedy with a sharp twist that both startles and satisfies".

The judging panel comprised Liz Smith, John Scott Moncrieff, Paul Fitzpatrick, Joyce Caplan, Irene Brown and was chaired by Catherine Robins.

The runners up are: Janis Joplin; Full Tilt from Regular Music with support from the National Theatre of Scotland at Assembly Checkpoint and A Walk at the Edge of the World from Magnetic North at Summerhall@Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

The award will be presented this year by Scottish writer and filmmaker Murray Grigor at a ceremony at the Scottish Arts Club in Rutland Square on Sunday 24th August at 6.30pm.
