Royal Lyceum Will Go To Wonderland For Christmas 2016

The Royal Lyceum Theatre Company will be staging Lewis Carroll's classic, children's tale Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as its Christmas show this winter.

The cast and creative crew have yet to be announced for the production, running 26 November to 31 December with tickets priced from £10 to £30.

The bonkers story will be familiar to many. When Alice follows a snappily dressed white rabbit holding a pocket watch down a rabbit hole, she knows today is not going to be like any other. An adventure is beginning that will grow "curiouser and curiouser".

There are drinks that shrink you, cakes which make you grow taller, a Mad Hatter who talks in riddles, and a Queen who shrieks ‘Off with her head!’.

There may be a renewed burst of Alice in Wonderland fever following the release this May of Disney's "Alice Through the Glass". The film takes its title from Carroll's sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, published 6 years later in 1871, Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There.

The film stars Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Sacha Baron Cohen as Time, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter as the White and Red Queens, and the late Alan Rickman as the talking caterpillar. 26-year-old Mia Wasikowska plays Alice.

The Lyceum reported "record-breaking" performances for its recent Christmas adaptation of another literary classic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The kids' fantasy story by CS Lewis was also made into a major big screen adaptation in 2005.

This is the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company's 50th Anniversary year.
