The first Samhuinn Fire Festival to be held on Calton Hill has sold out in advance.

Organisers of the event, the Beltane Fire Society, announced yesterday on their Facebook page that they had sold all available tickets:

"Tickets have now SOLD OUT. There will be none sold on the gate tomorrow. Please be sure to collect your pre-booked tickets from Tickets Scotland's shop on Rose Street before the event."

This is the first time tonight's event, which started in 1995, has been a paid event and the first time it has been staged on Calton Hill. In previous years, the free/by donation Samhuinn Festival was held on the Royal Mile.

The Beltane Fire Festival, marking the arrival of Summer in May, has always been the bigger event in the Society's calendar and has been held on Calton Hill since it started as a Test Dept. project in 1988.

As Samhuinn grew in popularity, it was natural for the Beltane Fire Society to move to its "spiritual home" on Calton Hill.

Weather-wise, the Met Office is forecasting a temperature of 7°C and a likely dry evening when the event starts around 7pm. However, the forecast sees it clouding over from 9pm with a 60% to 80% chance of rain in the last hour.

The event officially ends at 11pm.
