Freestyle stunt cyclist Danny MacAskill will debut his Drop and Roll Show Live at the Fringe this August.
MacAskill became a YouTube sensation when he appeared in a 2009 video Inspired Bicycles doing jaw-dropping tricks on and off buildings, objects and built structures around Edinburgh.
Almost ten years since that YouTube video established a career doing crazy stuff on his bicycle MacAskill recently launched his own YouTube channel.
The Drop & Roll Live show is part of this year's programme at Underbelly’s Circus Hub on The Meadows in August. MacAskill wil be joined in the Big Top by fellow Scotsman Duncan Shaw, with more athletes to be announced. Extreme sports commentator Henry Jackson will host the hour-long show with crowd participation and prizes. Tickets will range from £16.50 for concessions to £20.
Now in its 5th year The Circus Hub will include contemporary circus, traditional theatrical clowning, and debauched late-night cabaret and burlesque.
Highlights from The Big Top include the UK Premiere of Filament, an LA circus skills show with a story inspired by popular Eighties teen movies.
Also making its Fringe Premiere, is Finland’s Race Horse Company with madcap circus skills Super Sunday and Fringe favourite Circa returning with its show Humans, described as a "breathtaking, gravity-defying" show by EG's Fringe critic.
Meanwhile, The Beauty marquee hosts Australian female troupe YUCK Circus, and also from Down Under, Company 2 (Cantina and Scotch & Soda) with a new work Le Coup, transforming the Spiegeltent into a late-night, neo-vaudeville speakeasy.
Canada’s Les Foutoukours will mix modern theatricality with traditional Russian clowning in its Fringe Premiere of Kombini.
The family fun continues with Hotel Paradiso, presented by the UK’s Lost in Translation. The cast of 6 acrobats, clowns and jugglers tell the story of how a group of tenants battle to save their home and livelihood.
Bernie Dieter (star of La Clique) returns with Little Death Club, promising gin-soaked, Weimar-punk jazz band nights of dangerously funny kabarett and there's late-night action from Australia’s Highwire Entertainment with Rouge, a circus for grown-ups which features a decadent blend of acrobatics, operatic cabaret and twisted burlesque.
