Jamie Primrose (artist)

Jamie Primrose is a much admired young Scottish landscape artist, renowned particularly for his dark, moody studies of the streets and architecture of Edinburgh.

His regular, seasonal exhibitions at the Dundas Street Gallery have often included atmospheric cityscapes capturing greystone Georgian crescents and wintry views in Inverleith Park and the Meadows, the cool light sparkling in the snow.

In this exciting new exhibition, Glistening Light, he shows the fruits of his travels in France and Italy which bring a totally different, colourful perspective of coastline and seashore in the summer sun.

Take a journey through these paintings along the Cote d’Azur, visiting a boating marina in St. Jean Cap Ferrat, the red-roofed villas at Eze, a beach at Villefranche focussing on the azur blue sky and sea, the bright sun dappling on the waves.

The sea, rivers, canals and the changing view of water by day and night is the key subject, moving from the Riviera to rural Provence, from classic scenes of Venice to majestic London. Views of distant church domes and spires along the Grand Canal and the Thames have a Turneresque quality in their soft, shimmering shades.

The detail in his architectural drawings, the movement of waves and the exquisite, atmospheric study of light from early morning to sunset proves once more the trademark style perfected by Jamie Primrose.

This is a stunning new selection of oil paintings and giclee prints covering his European travels as well as a few of his iconic Edinburgh scenes. A portfolio of Indian ink sketches and prints are also available.

Exhibition runs from 2nd to 10th November.
