Scotland's national LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) pride festival is a traditional pride march and rally, and a community based festival. The festival, held in Edinburgh every two years, encompasses live music, DJs and a health and community fair.

The winner of this year's Edinburgh Medal is Professor Carl Djerassi, an American chemist, novelist and playwright and Emeritus Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University. Djerassi is best known for his contribution to the development of the first oral contraceptive pill in 1951 for which he won the National Medal of Science in the USA.

Edinburgh residents say their concerns about air pollution, caused by re-routing city centre trams traffic, is falling on deaf ears after a Council committee hearing yesterday.

A Book of Condolence, in commemoration of those who died in the 11 March earthquake and tsunami in Japan, was opened yesterday morning at the Japanese Consulate in Edinburgh.
