About the venue

Edinburgh Old Town, "A' listed courtyard which dates back to 1587 and was the former residence of renowned Edinburgh Enlightenment philosopher David Hume in the mid-eighteenth century. The three-storey, ‘L' shaped house follows in the traditional Scottish close style.

The City of Edinburgh Council owned Riddles Court is mainly used by the Workers Educational Association (WEA) whose courses include workplace adult literacy, confidence building, return to learning/study, and workshops.

The venue re-opened in 2017 following a £6 million restoration.

The venue has become one of the longest-established venues on the Fringe with theatre, comedy, children's shows and film screenings. In Fringe 2022, Greenside take over the venue. In previous years, it was under the banner of Diverse Attractions in August.
