Fishers in the City is Ten years old

FISHERS IN THE CITY: NEW LOOK FOR ONE OF EDINBURGH’S FAVOURITE RESTAURANTS

Becoming a ten year old is a big moment in anyone’s life; for a restaurant in today’s climate it is a real cause for celebration. In spring 2000 the owners of Fishers Bistro in Leith took the bold step of opening a restaurant in Thistle Street – right in the middle of the city and one of the smartest shopping streets in Edinburgh.Bringing some of the favourite dishes from the original restaurant and adding some new, they expanded their winning formula of uncompromisingly fresh fish cooked remarkably well. The numerous awards presented to the restaurant in the past decade  is testatment to the quality and service.

Now the restaurant has hit double figures all that was needed was a little makeover. Not anything too drastic, merely a few changes to freshen it up, so customers may just think that there’s something slightly different but they can’t quite put their finger on it. The lower and middle ‘decks’ are still bright and open with a new modern style mural giving a refreshing take on nauticalia. The upper ‘deck’ now has fitted butter cream leather banquettes with new subdued lighting making the room much more cosy and, dare we say it, romantic.

Tia Millar, co-owner of Fishers says: “We didn’t want to change the intrinsic nature of the restaurant as it has proved to be such a popular place since we opened it. However, I think we’ve just given the interior a slightly more modern twist and hope that our customers agree”.

The menu now includes a set price lunch/pre theatre option which is available everyday from noon until 6.00pm. With a choice of four starters and three main (including a bowl of mussels with a variety of sauces), there’s no excuse not to pop in for a quick lunch or early evening meal and still have change to choose from the wonderful wine list.

Talking of wine, the Handmade South African wines that are exclusive to Fishers and Great Grog, will later this year be expanded due to their popularity. From a vineyard in Stellenbosch (“hand picked grapes, hand made wine, hand labelled bottles – no feet involved”) this fantastic range currently includes a table white & red (£18.95), chenin blanc and a cabernet sauvignon reserve.

The wine list prices start from £12.50.
