The Portobello Regatta returns again after resuming, last year, after a 40 year absence. The event sees five person rowing boats competing over two days. The races start and end on Portobello beach, between Bath Street and Bellfield Street.

Among the boats setting forth is a five person rowing boat, called Icebreaker, built for use by everyone in Portobello for recreation, exercise and racing.

Icebreaker is described as "a St Ayles Skiff, designed by internationally renowned small boat designer Iain Oughtred for the Scottish Coastal Rowing Project."

Icebreaker will be racing against boats from Achiltibuie, Anstruther, Port Seton, North Berwick, Eyemouth, and an Irish Currach - one of the earliest forms of boat - from Tollcross. Boats from the Portobello Sailing & Kayaking Club are also taking part.
