Description

With crowd-sourcing and social media all the rage, it was only a matter of time before a really big project came along. Today is the day when vloggers and filmmakers of every hue, from around the world, are invited to share on YouTube some aspect of their day for Ridley Scott's crowd-sourced mash-up movie of a single day on Earth, entitled Life In A Day.

I don't envy the person who has to sit through the inevitable hundreds of hours of footage that will pour in, but who better to direct, than Scotland's own Kevin Macdonald (Last King of Scotland, Touching the Void, One Day In September)?

In the promo/call for entries video for Life In A Day, the Oscar-winning documentary-maker asks filmmakers to think about three things:

  1. What makes you frightened?
  2. What do you love?
  3. What makes you laugh?

Curiously, he also asks people to empty their pockets and film what they are carrying.

Sundance premiere

Individuals whose footage makes it into the finished film will be credited as co-directors and 20 of these contributors will be flown in January 2011 to the Sundance Film Festival in Utah - the pre-eminent festival for new indie films - for the world premiere of Life In A Day.
