The "official" festival around which the other Edinburgh festivals
have developed. Launched in 1947 as a stage for peace and unity in Europe
after the Second World War, its focus is on top acts from opera, classical,
and drama worlds. The web site carries a searchable program and background
information on the EIF. Tickets are now on sale - some shows (like the
fireworks concert) sell out quickly. Secure booking is available through
