What a lovely show! We were treated to fascinating readings taken from Cassel's A Book of Etiquette by A Woman of the World, written in the aftermath of the Great War. So much had changed because of the war and the excerpts often cited what used to happen - and what should now be proper. Of course, almost a hundred years later even that is sometimes hilarious.

Whilst Colin Dundas stayed at the piano, Anne Lewis and Frances Cooper had their chairs at either side of the stage. They moved centre stage to perform. On a table alongside an Aspidistra - the topic discussed in the bit about home decoration and enhanced by Rebecca Clarke's song of that title.

Frances and Anne took it in turn to read from A Book of Etiquette and either sung an appropriate popular song on their own or together. Not only are they great singers, but they can certainly act their parts too. The facial expressions were so in keeping with the 1920's.

The fourteen songs were wide ranging and included Elizabeth Alexander's No One Gets a Programme, James Macmillan's Sonnet, Hamilton Harty's Lullaby, and songs too from Mozart, Purcell Johann Strauss II, Schubert, Bernstein and others.

The audience, mostly women, were clearly appreciative of the entertaining hour we had enjoyed.
