The Exhibition Oya - Ko

The Place
Nexus Gallery 1, 61 Bread Street

The Blurb The artists' fund of knowledge about the ancient Japanese calligraphic tradition is very evident in this exhibition.

The paintings are mostly in ink, and often only in black and white. Look at "Zen Circle/Ichi Enso" by Tanathe ka Shingai, showing a black circle, slightly blurred in places with splatters of ink, and the dramatic "Ascendance" by Campbell Sutherland, painted on two panels, showing a very loosely painted circle in shades of black and white.

We were lucky on our visit to the Gallery, as Campbell Sutherland was "manning" the desk, and was able to explain the feelings and emotions behind some of the paintings.

Feel the heat of the sun in his intuitive work "Suna no Oma, Woman of the dunes", painted in shades of ochre, touches of orange, and some bold black strokes of creative calligraphy.

Visually very exciting and thought-provoking.

The Time 11a.m.-9p.m. Til 1st Sept.
