Plans are underway to dress up Festival Square on Lothian Road over coming months in preparation for the London Olympics.
As Scotland's only London 2012 'Live Site', the Festival Square Big Screen is designed to be a prime destination for news, interactive events and live coverage of the Olympic Games, as well as other major fixtures such as Wimbledon.
Other events broadcast here are those marking the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and live broadcasts from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
In the coming months, the Big Screen will be 'dressed' with London 2012 Olympic branding and an area of astroturf will be laid out, enticing visitors to the Square for a wide range of activities and broadcasts on the Screen.Ahead of the Live Site's official 'activation' on 1 May various fixtures will be broadcast on the screen.
Councillor Steve Cardownie, Festivals and Events Champion for the City of Edinburgh, said: "Over the next few months the Big Screen will really come into its own as it becomes Scotland's only Live Site for the London 2012 Olympic Games. With such a wide variety of events and activities planned, there is something for everyone to enjoy."
Festival Square events
On Saturday 14 April, rugby fans will be able to catch all the action from the Melrose Sevens, broadcast live on the Big Screen from 2.15pm to 7.15pm.
Then on Sunday 15 April from 9.30 - 11.30am, people can take part in a hockey-themed record attempt. Edinburgh is the first location for the touring nPower Big Dribble roadshow, which aims to set a record for dribbling hockey balls 2012km across Great Britain.
In Face Britain from 19 to 21 April, Big Screens across the UK, including Edinburgh's, will show a portrait of HM The Queen, which will be made up of self-portraits from young people aged 4 to 16 years. The project celebrates the nation's children in the lead up to HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.
