First Snow in the Capital

Large deposits of snow this morning and the previous night caused roads to be blocked and problems for cars on the main roads within the capital. Although gritters and snow ploughs had been seen out today the falls were heavy and prolonged enough to make the roads challenging for all vehicles other than 4 by 4's.

It wasn't bad news for everyone as families enjoyed the fresh snow with snow men popping up in many Edinburgh parks. Outdoor shops seemed also to have benefited from the first snow falls with the sales of sledges booming.

The weather forecast for the rest of next week is more of the same.
