Midmar Allotment Open Day 2009

Since 2006, the public have been
invited to explore the enclosed world of Midmar allotments on just one day in
August. For about 170 plotholders, this secret garden offers a source of fresh
vegetables and fruit, mental and physical exercise, good company and almost
spiritual sustenance through the year. The annual Open Day is a way for the
plotholders to share their appreciation and pleasure with a wider audience.

In 2009, the Open Day will be
held on Saturday 22 August. The gates open at 1.00 pm and close at 4.00 pm.
The allotments are entered via the two gates off Midmar Drive in Morningside where
there will be stalls displaying a wide range of produce.

Visitors can, in return for
donations, take away vegetables, jams, preserves and home baking. Rest,
refreshment, such as tea and scones, and shelter will be available at the newly
built communal cabin. Visitors are encouraged to explore the plots for
themselves and questions are always welcome. All proceeds from the day go
towards repair and maintenance of the plot facilities.
