Signet Library

The historic Signet Library, in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, has such an elegant interior with its barrelled ceiling, cupola, corinthian columns, and stained glass windows that it's easy to forget that it is a library for Scottish lawyers.

The Parliament Square building, which is next door to the Scottish law courts, is home to the oldest legal society in Scotland, the Society of Writers to her Majesty's Signet. The Signet Library is made available for non-legal Edinburgh events, such as corporate conferences and functions.

It has been used for the launch of the annual Edinburgh Book Festival and, in 2009, as Fringe venue 308, it hosted dance piece "Ringside" at the Fringe
