Restaurants in Edinburgh invite you to eat out to Fight Hunger

RESTAURANTS IN EDINBURGH INVITE YOU TO EAT OUT TO FIGHT HUNGER

Restaurants Against Hunger month 2008

This October, eat out at one of your favourite restaurants in Edinburgh and you can help to make a real difference to the world's hungry.

The idea is simple and the cause is genuine. From 1st to 31st October, a host of eateries in Edinburgh will join hundreds of restaurants, gastropubs, cafés and bars across the UK to invite their customers to fight hunger simply by eating out.  They are:

o       Iglu Café, 2b Jamaica Street, EH3 6HH. 0131 476 5333

o       La Garrigue, 31 Jeffrey Street, EH1 1DH. 0131 557 3032

o       Rafael's, 2 deanhaugh Street, EH4 1LY. 0131 332 1469

o       Valvona & Crolla VinCafe, 11 Multrees Walk, EH1 3DQ. 0131 557 0088

o       Vintners Rooms, 37 Giles Street, EH6 6BZ. 0131 554 6767

Importantly, the emphasis of Restaurants Against Hunger is on pleasure, not guilt. Simply pop along to a participating local eatery to enjoy a great meal and as a result help people in some of the world's poorest countries to feed their families. Each restaurant decides how it will raise funds, either by donating part of their takings from selected dishes, adding a small optional donation to the bill or hosting a special event.

In 2007, Restaurants Against Hunger raised over £300,000 in the UK, with all funds going directly to support the vital work of humanitarian charity, Action Against Hunger. This year sees Restaurants Against Hunger marking a decade of raising essential funds to help those most in need to feed themselves. Why not help to give the campaign a special 10th birthday present by helping them to make this year's ‘Fight hunger. Eat out' month the biggest ever and reach their target of £450,000.

A child dies of hunger every five seconds (FAO).  Just £24 can make a huge difference, providing full treatment for a severely malnourished child and even £1 can help a farmer produce enough rice for his family for four days*. With the current world food crisis looking likely to worsen, Action Against Hunger, needs your help more than ever.

Action Against Hunger has a long tradition of collaborating with restaurants and chefs in a joint effort to boost awareness about world hunger and raise funds for its worldwide programmes.  For a full list of over 500 restaurants, cafés and gastropubs participating in the campaign this October, please visit www.restaurantsagainsthunger.org.
