Joy Division Film Wins Michael Powell Award

Control, the biopic about Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, who committed suicide at the age of 23, has won the Michael Powell Award for Best New British Feature. Control seems a deserving winner from the buffs who I've talked to here at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Sam Riley, who plays Ian Curtis in the film won the PPG Award for best British Actor in a film at the EIFF.

The Standard Life Audience Award went to We Are Together (directed by Paul Taylor).

The Sky Movies Best Documentary Award went to Billy The Kid directed by Jennifer Venditti.

The Skillset New Directors Award went to Lucia Puenzo for XXY.

The UK Film Council Kodak Award for Best British Short Film
was won by “The One and Only Herb McGwyer Plays Wallis Island”, by James Griffiths
Special mention to – “Dog Altogether”, by Paddy Considine

The European Film Academy Short Film 2007 - Prix UIP
went to “Soft” by Simon Ellis

Special mention to “Final Journey” by Lars Zimmermann and “Ottica Zero” by Maja Borg

Short Scottish Documentary Award Supported by Baillie Gifford
was won by “Breadmakers.” The film is by Yasmin Fedda
Special mention to “How to Save a Fish From Drowning”, by Kelly Neal

The McLaren Award for New British Animation in Partnership with BBC Film Network went to Over The Hill by Peter Baynton.
