Head to the Borders for Traditions in Place Networking Day

Border ballads, fiddle tunes, traditional tales and dances will be hot topics in Hawick at an upcoming gathering.

For traditional arts organisations TRACS (Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland) and Traditional Music Forum (TMF) are inviting local groups and enthusiasts to participate in 'Traditions in Place', a Networking and Development Day for all those interested in the traditional arts of music, song, storytelling and dance, which will be held at the Border Textile Tower House, on Saturday, 20 September, from 10am.

The day is a chance for local musicians, singers, dancers and storytellers, along with teachers, museum workers and traditional arts enthusiasts to come together, share knowledge and find out more about resources for music, dance and story, get some practical organisational support, and look at the prospects for building local networks within the existing national ones.

Speakers include Walter Scott specialist Donald Smith, storyteller James Spence from Jedburgh, and well-known Borders fiddler and singer from Birgham, Lori Watson.

Ms Watson said, ‘I’m looking forward to getting together with folk and exploring the wonderful resources we have in the traditional arts in the Borders. If this could be the start of something more permanent, I’d be delighted.’

The day is FREE but booking is essential and can be made online at: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/traditions-in-place-borders-tickets-1285…
