Description

The World Ceilidh, is one of two music fests (the other being The Hairth in September), held at a remote West Coast spot on Knockengorroch farm each year. Smaller than T In The Park, and with a strong Celtic and world roots music flavour, it has gathered a loyal following, yet still retains much of the idealism with which it was originally set-up.

It is remote though, so camping is pretty much a given unless you're a close friend of the farmer; music (and dancing in the field) is on throughout the day in several venues, and the beer is a good price and tasty (e.g. heather ale on tap and a fancy cocktail bar under the canvas). Most festival-goers take their own provisions as well.

There's a variety of food vendors (crepes, chips, curry), chai tents, a healing area, various jams going on, a cinema/club tent, cabaret, puppetry, kids' workshops, and storytelling.

If rain is expected, take your wellies and don't camp too close to the river or else you'll wake up underwater ;-)

The organisers advise buying tickets in advance, as numbers are limited. See related links in side panel for tickets and times, transport.

Gates open at 10am on Thursday 22 and the music ends at 3am on Monday morning.

Getting there

A festival bus (single or return) leaves Edinburgh that will get you there at the start of the festival and bring you back at the end of the festival. Details on the festival web site.
