Venue:
St Andrew Square

The Standard Life Opening Event marks the start of the 70th Edinburgh International Festival with an epic, light and sound show, projected on city buildings.

Artists 59 Productions will transform St Andrew Square into a night garden through light and sound installations and large-scale projection.

Stroll around the Square as the buildings burst into life – immersing you in a fast moving world of colour, texture and sound.

The show takes its inspiration from the words of Sir John Falconer – Lord Provost of Edinburgh and the International Festival’s first Chair – at the inaugural Edinburgh International Festival in 1947, that the Edinburgh Festival should ‘provide a platform for the flowering of the human spirit’.

Bloom is produced by 59 Productions who also produced the opening events Deep Time in 2016 and the Harmonium Project in 2015. Bloom is produced in partnership with The University of Edinburgh.

Bloom brings together light and sound installations, large-scale illuminations and 3D-mapped projections onto Edinburgh’s iconic buildings.

Tickets

The show is free, but ticketed from 9pm-10.30pm. For those that didn't get tickets admission is on a first-come-first-served basis from 10.30pm on both nights.
