Edinburgh's Christmas 2017 season launches on the second last Sunday of November, with the first in a series of Christmas light nights.

Choirs from across Edinburgh including Little Voices Big Stars, Edinburgh Ballet and Edinburgh Rock Choir will perform across two stages on George Street in front of an expected audience of around 20,000 people. The event will be once again hosted by Forth One DJ Arlene Stuart.

One of the main attractions of Edinburgh's Christmas 2017, called "The Ice Adventure", a Scottish-themed, ice sculpture museum opens today as well in the same George Street location as last year's 60,000 bulb Street of Light.

The Christmas Tree on The Mound, a traditional gift to the City of Edinburgh Council from the people of Hordaland, Norway, will also be switched on as part of Edinburgh's Night Light celebrations.

Following the switch on of the lights - usually attended by the Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh and Deputy Convener of Hordaland County Council, there is a firework display at 5pm.

There are Christmas food markets that also open today for the festive season and the pop-up ice rink in St Andrew Square opens for skating. There are a number of smaller Christmas Light Nights in other Edinburgh areas in the days following the main city centre Light Night event.

Edinburgh's Christmas Light Night is a free, public event.
