Description

The 17th Air New Zealand Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival, a biennial event, will be played at the home of Scottish rugby Murrary field from 1 - 8 September 2008. Expect a party atmosphere as old rugby friends from across the globe are reunited.

The Festival is being held in Scotland for the first time and is set to welcome up to 121 teams from 18 countries (up to 3,000 players, friends and family).

The Opening Ceremony at 6.30pm on 1st September at Edinburgh Castle will consist of Welcome Speeches from Stewart Maxwell MSP, Edinburgh Lord Provost, The Rt Hon. George Grubb and Gavin Hastings - Festival Ambassador. Ronnie Brown will perform ‘Flower of Scotland' along with the Lothian and Borders Police Band.

A player's Oath will then be taken by the oldest Scottish player in the Festival - Easton Roy - 85 years of age.

A firework display will then take place above the Castle signalling the start of the Parade of Nations. The Parade of Nations starting at 7.40pm will see all 18 nations and 121 teams walk from the Castle Esplanade to George Square for a invitation only welcome party in the Spiegel Gardens.
