“Let’s get ready to punble!” says Tim Vine, dressed in a
cowboy costume. Puns, or plays on words, are something that you don’t really
think about. And when you do, it’s usually followed by, "no pun intended."

I don’t know how Vine managed to think up this show. One
whole hour of pun after pun that is so fast there is bound to be one that you
will laugh at. You also never really realised how many there were until they
are being shot out at you like bullets from his cowboy gun.

His quick fire show also incorporates a “bag of tricks” and some songs which are
very welcome. It’s a well constructed concept that
is skilfully executed by Vine, although sometimes he is rather self-deprecating
about the whole thing.

One thing that I found myself doing, much to my own
annoyance, was trying to figure out what was coming next. This may take up
rather a lot of your brain time, and most of the time you will be right, but
there are a couple of exceptions.

Punslinger may not be everyone’s taste in comedy, but it
is enjoyable enough and perfect for the whole family to enjoy. Although
sometimes a bit too fast, you really have to look at it as an achievement. I
mean, looking for puns here, there and everywhere, can’t be the most enjoyable
activity in the world.
