Having been nominated for the IF Best Newcomer Award 2008, the Amused Moose LaughOff winner 2008, and nominated for the Chortle Best Newcomer Award 2009, I was very much looking forward to Mike Woznaik's new show for 2009.
However, although some of his characters were very well crafted, the show gave the impression that it was a work-in-progress and not the polished article. Woznaik worked too hard, which added to the feeling that the material had been put together rather too quickly and lacked the sparkle of the previous year.
Several parts were very good: his self-made script sketch was excellent and worked well. Maybe I was expecting too much, and was rather disappointed.
Had he not been as high profile, I would possibly have rated it higher than I have. Sometimes nominations for newcomer awards can be a curse rather than a blessing.
