In a world where we rely on the ever constant changing in technology to live our lives for us, we all still have that one friend. The one friend, that knows a lot more than what we do, the friend who we feel inferior too and the friend that we wish we could outsmart. Enter Jimmy McGhie.

The Pleasance 10 Dome was full to the brim on Saturday with people who had come to see what McGhie would do next. Following a sell out show from last year, McGhie entertained the crowd with style and ease, explaining to all the best way to fake acting smart.

Using his own experiences of working at the BBC with Mr Brian Cox, how to get girls and just keeping up with his family – his brother works for the United Nations and his sister in an armoury – McGhie effortlessly explained how to fake intelligence. Which, in this day and time, may not necessarily be a bad thing.

Each one of his five nods, rang a ring of truth to the 10 dome, with the audience doing nothing more than lap up information that they most probably already knew. This doesn’t deter how funny McGhie is. Using a variety of accents to great affect (bring out Leon anyday…) I couldn’t help but feel I was watching something really exciting: the growing up of a man who has the potential to be a comedy superstar.

As someone who is knew to Jimmy, I implore you to see him, not only for the laughs but also the new set of nods you will gain at the end of it. The days of not knowing what is being said by those who know more are over. I have already put them into practice. Thank you Mr McGhie for your willingness to share artificial intelligence.
