There are any number of earnest and passionate performers offering an hour of the best of themselves. But around midnight at the Famous Spiegeltent’s ‘Club Speigel’ with the Love Boat Big Band is TWO whole hours of fun and indulgence with a bunch of professionals who into the small hours of last night, entertained an eager crowd of mixed ages and inebriation levels that was the best thing in my Festival so far!
Friends and I and an audience of 200+ others, danced the night away and I wish we’d gone with the flow like so many other people did and got dolled up nautical and forties style, as we would have had a better time again.
The Loveboat Big Band, with its powerful brass section and characterful front men like Andy Thorburn topped off by Bevvy Sister, Heather McCleod, bang out lots of the best classic chunes from across the years, to the delight of the audience.
The Speigeltent has to be the best space in the festival for enjoying an intimate experience with the performers. Without a backstage and with its cosy cubicles and open floorspace, it wraps itself around you and keeps the night at bay.
As if that weren’t enough, two mesmerizing and glamorous aerialists Miss.Fit Sisters from Edinburgh itself, combine vintage sassy style with spectacular aerial dance and swing their stuff from the roof with elegant and sexy energy. Although I’ve only awarded four stars for the band, the place and atmosphere adds up to way more. With literally added atmosphere from dry ice and great lighting, get on down to St, Andrews Square by bus, bike, shoe or tram as this show guarantees a great end to a day’s festing.
